Social media content Dubai: how to plan, make and post it

A practical guide for Dubai businesses that want a feed people stop for, made the right way under UAE media rules.

Short answer: good social media content starts with a story, not a posting schedule. Decide what you want to be known for, turn that into a few content pillars, film once for every format you need, and publish in Arabic and English where your audience expects it. In the UAE, every advert must also be clearly labelled, and creators you pay to promote you generally need an advertiser permit.

This guide is for founders and marketing teams planning social media content Dubai audiences will actually watch. It covers planning, production, the UAE rules for promotional posts, consent, accessibility and how to judge what is working.

What makes social media content work?

Content works when it gives people a reason to stop scrolling. That reason is usually one of three things: it teaches them something, it makes them feel something, or it shows them something they have not seen before.

The businesses that stand out on social media treat each post as part of one bigger story. Their feed feels like it was made by the same people, with the same point of view, every time. A random mix of offers, stock images and trending sounds rarely builds that feeling, even if individual posts get views.

How do you plan social media content?

Start with a short written plan before anyone picks up a camera. It keeps the team honest and makes every shoot easier.

  1. Define the story. Write one or two sentences on what your business stands for and who it is for.
  2. Choose three to five content pillars. These are the recurring themes you will post about, such as behind the scenes, how-to, customer questions, the team and the work itself.
  3. Pick your platforms. Go where your audience already spends time, and do fewer platforms well.
  4. Set a realistic rhythm. A pace you can keep for months beats a burst of posts that stops after two weeks.
  5. Build a content calendar. Plan posts around your launches, Ramadan and Eid, national days and the events your customers care about.
  6. Agree on approvals. Name one person who signs off posts, so content does not wait in inboxes.

How do you make content for every platform from one shoot?

Plan the shoot around the formats you need, not the other way round. One well-planned day can give you a longer hero video, short vertical clips, photos and stills for carousels.

  • Write a shot list per format. Note which scenes are for vertical clips and which are for wide video.
  • Frame for both. Leave space around the subject so you can crop to vertical and horizontal without losing the action.
  • Capture clean audio. People forgive average pictures far more than bad sound.
  • Shoot the hooks. Film strong opening moments separately, so each short clip can start with something that earns attention.

Know how each platform treats length and shape. On YouTube, for example, square or vertical videos up to 3 minutes long are classified as Shorts, according to YouTube Help. Upload longer, wide videos when you want them treated as full-length.

Should Dubai social media content be in Arabic and English?

Often, yes. Arabic is the official language of the UAE, and signs on commercial outlets are in Arabic and English, according to the UAE government fact sheet. Many Dubai brands post in both, or run separate accounts for each audience.

Arabic is written right to left, which changes how text sits on a graphic, as the W3C explains. Design Arabic versions of your templates rather than flipping the English ones, and have a native Arabic writer review every caption and on-screen line. A literal translation can lose the tone that made the English post work.

What are the UAE rules for promotional posts?

Promotional content in the UAE is regulated, and the rules apply to social media as much as to print or TV. Here are the points every business should know before it posts or pays for promotion:

  • Every advert must say it is an advert. Article 20 of Federal Decree-Law No. 55 of 2023 on media regulation requires advertisers to include a clear, explicit indication that the material is advertising.
  • Put the label first. The National Media Council advertising guide says disclosure should generally come at the beginning of the content or description, use clear words such as #ad or #paid_ad, and not be lost among many other hashtags. It also says "in cooperation with" is not enough on its own, and video ads should state it verbally as well as in the description.
  • Creators need a permit. The UAE Media Council launched an Advertiser Permit in July 2025 for individuals who publish promotional content on social media, paid or unpaid, according to WAM. The permit number must be shown on the account, and the Council asked companies to work only with licensed individuals.
  • Owners promoting their own business are exempt. The same announcement says individuals promoting their own product or service, or a company they own, through their personal account do not need the permit.

The permit is now listed as a service of the National Media Authority, which replaced the UAE Media Council in its functions, according to the Authority. Rules change, so check the current requirements before a campaign. This is a summary, not legal advice.

How do you label branded content on Instagram and TikTok?

Use the platform's own tools as well as a clear caption. When a creator is paid or gifted something by a business, Instagram requires them to tag the business partner, and people see a "Paid partnership with" label above the post, according to the Instagram Help Center. TikTok's Branded Content Policy says creators posting branded content must turn on the commercial content disclosure toggle.

If you work with creators, give them a written brief that covers the label, the permit number and the claims they are allowed to make. Approve the content before it goes live.

Yes, get it in writing. Article 44 of Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 makes it an offence to use technology to invade someone's privacy without consent, including photographing people in public or private places. Ask everyone who appears clearly on camera, including staff and customers, to sign a release form, and avoid filming people in the background who have not agreed.

Music and footage are protected too. Copyright covers films and music, as WIPO explains, so a trending song in a personal post is not automatically cleared for a business account. Use each platform's licensed music for business use, buy a licence, or commission original sound.

How do you make social video accessible?

Add captions to every video with speech. WCAG 2.2 requires captions for prerecorded audio in synchronised media (Success Criterion 1.2.2). Captions also help the many people who watch with the sound off.

The W3C WAI media guide recommends captions, transcripts and descriptions of important visual information. On social media, that means burned-in or uploaded subtitles in Arabic and English, alt text on images where the platform allows it, and text on graphics that is large enough to read on a phone.

How do you know if your social media content is working?

Judge content against the goal you set in the plan, not against the biggest number on the dashboard. Useful signals include saves, shares, replies, profile visits, website clicks and direct messages that turn into conversations.

Review results monthly. Keep the pillars and formats that bring the right people closer to contacting you, and drop the ones that only bring views.

How do you choose a social media content partner in Dubai?

Search for social media content Dubai and you will find freelancers, production houses and anyone listed as a "social media agency Dubai". Look at the thinking behind their work, not just the views.

Ask how they find the story, who writes and reviews the Arabic, how they handle permits, labels and release forms, and who owns the footage after the project. A good partner should be able to show you a plan before they show you a camera.

Key takeaways

  • Start from a clear story and a few content pillars.
  • Plan each shoot for every format you need.
  • Label every advert clearly, and work with creators who hold the UAE advertiser permit.
  • Get signed releases, clear your music and caption your social media content Dubai audiences will watch.

Ask us a question

A content pillar is a recurring theme your brand posts about, such as behind the scenes, how-to tips or customer questions. Three to five pillars keep a feed focused and make planning much easier.

Generally, yes. The UAE Media Council launched an Advertiser Permit in 2025 for individuals who publish promotional content on social media, paid or unpaid. People promoting their own business on their personal account are exempt.

Clearly and at the start. UAE media law requires a clear, explicit indication that material is advertising. The National Media Council guide suggests words such as #ad or #paid_ad near the beginning, plus a spoken mention in videos.

Follow your audience. Arabic is the official language of the UAE and commercial signs are in Arabic and English, so many Dubai brands post in both. Design separate Arabic templates and have native speakers review captions.

Not automatically. Music is protected by copyright, and a sound available for personal posts may not be cleared for business use. Use licensed business music, buy a licence or commission original audio.

Yes. Subtitles help people who watch with the sound off and people who are deaf or hard of hearing. WCAG 2.2 also requires captions for prerecorded video with speech.
