How long to build a website in Dubai: stages and timeline

The stages of a website project, what really decides the timeline, and the steps after launch that most plans forget.

AJAllen Antony JamesCo-founder, Storytellers

Short answer: how long to build a website in Dubai depends on the scope and, above all, on how ready your content is. At Storytellers, a standard website goes live in about a week once content is ready, and a focused online store can launch in a few weeks once products and content are ready. Larger bilingual sites, integrations and web apps take longer, so agree the dates in writing before work starts.

This guide breaks a website project into stages, explains what speeds it up or slows it down, and covers the steps after launch, such as Google indexing, that are outside anyone's direct control.

What decides how long a website takes?

Five things decide most website timelines. The design and build are rarely the slowest part.

  • Scope: the number of pages, templates and features, such as booking, payments or member areas.
  • Content: whether the words, photos, videos and product details already exist.
  • Languages: an Arabic and English site needs two sets of content and right-to-left testing.
  • Integrations: connections to CRMs, payment gateways, booking tools or stock systems, which depend on third parties.
  • Decisions: how quickly feedback and approvals come back, and how many people need to agree.

How long does it take to build a website in Dubai, stage by stage?

Most projects move through the same stages. Knowing them helps you see where your time will go.

  1. Brief and discovery. Goals, audience, pages, features and the story the site needs to tell.
  2. Content. Copy, photos, video and product information, written or gathered for each page.
  3. Design. Layouts for key pages on mobile and desktop, then feedback and changes.
  4. Build. Development, the content management system and any integrations.
  5. Testing. Devices, browsers, forms, speed, accessibility and both languages.
  6. Launch. Domain and DNS, analytics, Search Console and a final check of every page.
  7. After launch. Fixes, indexing, your Google Business Profile and the first content updates.

What slows a website project down?

Most delays come from waiting, not working. The common ones are:

  • Content that arrives late, or changes after the design is approved.
  • Feedback from many people with different opinions and no final decision-maker.
  • Arabic copy that is translated at the end instead of written alongside the English.
  • Third-party accounts, such as payment or booking providers, that are not set up in time.
  • New features added halfway through the project.

How long does a .ae domain take?

Usually not long, but plan for it early. You register a .ae domain through an accredited registrar or one of its resellers, according to the .ae Domain Administration (TDRA). The same FAQ says processing depends on the type of .ae name and your registrar's systems, and once the registry is updated a new domain should generally be available worldwide within a very short period.

You can register a domain before you have a website or hosting. Do it as soon as you choose the name, and check the eligibility rules for the .ae zone you want.

Does an Arabic and English website take longer?

Yes, because it is really two sites that share one design. Arabic is the official language of the UAE, and signs on commercial outlets are in Arabic and English, according to the UAE government fact sheet. Arabic is written right to left, which affects layout, navigation and reading order, as the W3C explains.

Write the Arabic content alongside the English, not after it, and test every page in both directions. This adds time to the plan, but much less than fixing a right-to-left layout after launch.

What should be tested before launch?

Testing is the stage that gets squeezed when a project runs late. Protect it in the plan. A practical launch checklist covers:

  • Accessibility: check the site against WCAG 2.2, the global accessibility standard, including contrast, keyboard use and alt text.
  • Speed: web.dev says pages should reach Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, an Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and a Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less.
  • Privacy: the UAE's Personal Data Protection Law came into force on 2 January 2022, according to the UAE government portal, so publish a privacy notice and only collect the data your forms need.
  • Forms and links: send a test enquiry from every form and click every link.
  • Devices: test on real phones as well as desktop browsers.

How long until a new website shows up on Google?

Allow days to weeks. Google says crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, and requesting a crawl does not guarantee your pages will appear quickly or at all (Google Search Central).

Help Google find your pages by submitting a sitemap in Search Console. Google says a sitemap can be very helpful if you have just launched your site. If you also need a Google Business Profile, Google says verification reviews take up to 5 business days, and on rare occasions longer (Google Business Profile Help). Build these steps into the launch plan rather than leaving them to the last day.

How can you get your website live faster?

You control more of the timeline than you might think:

  • Write or gather content before the design starts.
  • Name one person who gives final approval.
  • Collect logins for your domain, hosting and third-party tools at the start.
  • Launch with the pages you need now, and add the rest in a second phase.
  • Ask for a working preview early, so feedback starts on the real thing.

What should you ask a web partner about timelines?

Whether you search for a web design agency Dubai list or ask for referrals, ask every partner the same questions: what the timeline assumes about content, what happens if feedback is late, who builds the Arabic version, and what is included after launch.

Ask for the dates in writing, with clear review stages. A good partner will tell you what they need from you, and when, before they promise a launch date.

Key takeaways

  • Content readiness decides the timeline more than design or code.
  • Arabic and English sites need two sets of content and right-to-left testing.
  • Protect time for testing, and plan for Google indexing after launch.
  • Agree written dates before you start, so you know how long to build a website in Dubai will really take.

At Storytellers, a standard website goes live in about a week once content is ready. The real variable is content: if the words and images still need to be written or shot, allow time for that first.

A focused store with a manageable catalogue can launch in a few weeks once products and content are ready. Large catalogues, payment setup and stock integrations add time.

Usually because of waiting rather than working: late content, slow or conflicting feedback, Arabic copy written at the end, and third-party accounts that are not ready in time.

Yes. The .ae Domain Administration says you can register a domain before you have a website or hosting. Register it through an accredited registrar as soon as you choose the name.

Google says crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Submitting a sitemap in Search Console helps Google discover your pages, but inclusion is not guaranteed.

Yes. An Arabic and English site needs two sets of content and right-to-left testing. Writing both languages together, rather than translating at the end, keeps the delay small.
